If your Icom mobile radio uses the OPC-617 accessory cable you can quickly add ignition activated power control. This will allow the radio to power up or down with the turn of the ignition key.
You will need the following:
1. Icom OPC-617 or compatible cable.
2. Ignition/Dimmer control cable. (This is a 1/2 amp fused lead which connects to pin 1 of the OPC-617)
3. Access to the radio programming software.
INSTALLATION:
1. Program the radio with the "IGSW" option selected.
2. Remove the bottom cover from the radio.
3. Plug the OPC-617 into the main board and route the cable out the rear of the radio.
4. Reinstall bottom cover.
5. Plug the Ignition/Dimmer control cable into the OPC-617
6. Route the fused lead from the control cable to an ignition switched source, usually found at the fuse panel.
The "Dimmer" setting allows for the radio display to be dimmed with the activation of the headlights. In order to use this feature, you will need to connect the fused lead to the headlight switch.
